WATER AND SEWER SERVICES

 

Service Calls: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., call 806-696-4300

Evening and Weekend Emergencies: Call the Shallowater Police Department at 806-696-4225, and if the officer is on patrol the Lubbock County Sherriff’s Office will answer and they will contact the officer on duty.  The officer will notify the appropriate personnel to assist you. 

 

WHAT WE DO

The City of Shallowater Utility Department manages the city’s water supply, raw water transmission system, water treatment plant, the water distribution system, wastewater collection system, and the wastewater treatment plant.

REQUIREMENTS TO OPEN A CITY OF SHALLOWATER ACCOUNT

Deposit: $100.00   We accept Cash, Check, or Money Order.

Each customer must complete and sign a Utility Service Application and Agreement.

A valid identification card or driver’s license must be presented.

Applications will be accepted in person during regular business hours which are:

8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Mon. - Fri. (excluding holidays)

There is a mail slot (night drop) located in the front door of City Hall for your convenience if you would like to make a payment or submit your new service information after hours.

If you are an existing customer and moving please contact City Hall at 806-696-4300 and we will be happy to assist you.

If you lived in Shallowater previously and have a balance on an old or inactive account, the balance must be paid in full before new services will be connected.

BILLING INFORMATION

Water meters are read approximately the 15th of each month. The billing period covers from the 15th of one month to the 15th of the next month. The utility billing is mailed on the last working day of the month and payment is due by the 15th of the month. Final payment day for each month is the 25th.

Example: Meter is read on April 15th. The billing period is from March 15th to April 15th, the bill is mailed on April 30th, and payment is due on May 15th.

 

*Water consumed under 1000 gallons is rolled over to the next billing cycle

BILLING RATES

Water consumption is calculated in 1,000’s of gallons. In an effort to promote water conservation, the City has a tiered rate system, with customers paying an increased rate per thousand gallons for increased consumption.

 

The current rates are listed below:

Residential Base Rate           $19.08

Senior Citizen Base Rate      $15.00

Commercial Base Rate         $19.08

Base Rate is 0-3,000 gallons

Sewer (appears as SE on your bill)

Sewer is not separately metered; what you use in water is calculated for sewer up to a $32.08 maximum charge for residential and senior rate customers. 

Residential Base Rate           $19.08 for 0 to 3,000 gallons; then $2.12 per 1,000 gallons up to a maximum charge of $32.08

Senior Citizen Base Rate      $15.00 for 0 to 3,000 gallons; then $1.10 per 1,000 gallons up to a maximum charge of $32.08

Commercial Base Rate         $24.38 for 0 to 3,000 gallons; then $2.12 per 1,000 gallons with no maximum charge on commercial accounts

 

Garbage (appears as GA on your bill)

Residential                   $23.00

Senior Citizen               $19.00

Commercial                  $36.00 * based on one can and one pick up per week

Commercial rates are based on the number of cans and pick-ups per week.

Lubbock Water (appears as LB on your bill)

We purchase water from the City of Lubbock.

Residential 

The fee is $45.48 per meter. 

Senior

The fee is $35.00 per meter.

Commercial 

The fee is $45.48 per meter. 

 

Bond/ Debt Service (appears as BD on your bill) 

Residential                   $30.28 per meter

Senior Citizen               $25.00 per meter

Garbage Tax (appears as TX on your bill)

Garbage is the only item that is taxed on your utility bill.

The Senior Rates are available to citizens 62 years of age or older. 

You must contact City Hall to receive the Senior Rate.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Pay in person at City Hall, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We accept Cash, Check or Money Order.

Pay in Person at City Hall after hours by using the Night Drop located on the front door of City Hall.

Bank Draft - Drafted on the 10th of each month – Please click here for a Draft Authorization Form.

Please sign and complete the Draft Authorization and return with a voided check.

RETURNED PAYMENTS/ CHECKS

Any payment that is returned will be assessed a $25 fee. The fee will be charged to the customer’s account.

 

DELINQUENT BILLS

All utility billings not received at City Hall within the due date (15th of each month or the next business day if the 15th should fall on a weekend or holiday) are considered delinquent, and a late charge of 10% of the total amount shown on the bill will be added to the amount due.

If you cannot make your payment before the 25th please contact City Hall at 806-696-4300 to make a payment arrangement.

If you have a balance of $75.00 or greater by the 25th day of the month, then all water and sewer services will be scheduled to be disconnected if you have not made a payment arrangement.

Once a customer’s utility services are scheduled to be disconnected by being listed on the monthly disconnect list prepared by the city, an administrative reconnect fee of $25 will be charged to the customer’s account. This fee will be charged regardless if the service was disconnected.

Once the full payment is received in full by the city, then the service will be reconnected on the same business day, provided the payment is received no later than 4:00 p.m. If payment is received by the city after 4:00 p.m., then service will be reconnected on the next business day.

 

GARBAGE SERVICE

Residential garbage service is provided with your City utility account.

Please securely bag and tie all garbage and keep dumpster lids closed to control insects and rodents.

Commercial garbage service is priced by the number of dumpsters and the number of weekly pick-ups.

Contact City Hall at 806-696-4300 to report damaged dumpsters, dumpsters that were not emptied on pickup days, or for commercial service and fee information.

IRRIGATION

The City of Shallowater purchases water from the City of Lubbock.  The City of Shallowater follows the City of Lubbock’s irrigation schedule and water restrictions.
